Overview
Join a globally recognized team of engineers providing innovative Flight Simulator Training Device (FSTD) solutions. You will handle technical challenges across device maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and upgrades, contributing to safety and simulation excellence. The role offers a collaborative and growth-oriented environment committed to health and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver technical support for FSTDs and related training devices by handling maintenance visits, equipment setups, conversions, demonstrations, flight testing, and resolving defects.
- Conduct independent preventive maintenance, daily readiness checks, recurring Qualification Test Guide (QTG) runs, Aircraft Database updates, and operating system lesson plan updates in alignment with prescribed procedures.
- Follow through on identified deficiencies, ensuring corrective actions are pursued and completed within designated timelines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical faults including urgent Aircraft on Ground incidents and compliance issues raised by aviation authorities.
- Execute hardware refurbishments and system modifications, identify repeating problems, and assist in establishing effective permanent corrective measures.
- Monitor system updates and use computerized management systems to document and track maintenance and deficiencies.
- Generate performance and trend reports for management oversight.
- Assume leadership responsibilities such as Shift Lead or Team Lead when assigned, independently managing role-specific duties.
- Develop and refine procedures for routine and specialized maintenance tasks.
- Work collaboratively with technical specialists on advanced diagnostics and contribute to special operational projects.
- Provide mentorship and hands-on training to less experienced staff supporting complex maintenance operations.
- Enhance technical proficiency continuously aiming to specialize in one or more FSTD components such as visual systems, motion platforms, or flight controls.
- Adhere strictly to CAE's environmental, health, safety standards, and safe work practices to ensure personal and team welfare.
Essential Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Aerospace Engineering.
- At least 7 years of experience in supporting Flight Simulation Training Devices or similar technical apparatus.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written, with strong customer service disposition and tactfulness.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and adapt to flexible shifts and changing schedules.
- Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft and FSTD terminology and the capability to interpret technical schematics and documentation.
- Proven proficiency in executing preventive and daily maintenance activities on simulators.
- Strong diagnostic skills spanning electronic, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic domains with adeptness in test equipment and diagnostic software.
- Familiarity with aircraft systems including avionics, motion, and visual components, plus solid computer skills with Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Basic understanding of computer architectures, networks, operating systems (Windows NT/XP, UNIX, Linux, AIX), and programming languages like C, C++, and FORTRAN.
- Fundamental knowledge of relevant local and international regulations for Flight Simulation Training Devices (e.g., EASA, FAA).
Preferred Experience
- Prior leadership roles such as Shift Lead or Team Lead within a simulator or training facility.
- Experience mentoring junior colleagues in simulator maintenance and corrective activities.
- Participation in QTG testing, simulator acceptance, or regulatory authority evaluations.
- Support experience across multiple FSTD systems or complex simulation center operations.
