Position Overview
These postings represent ongoing recruitment for permanent and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time, within the Housekeeping service at either Macassa or Wentworth Lodge. The posting will cover current vacancies and any that arise between September 10, 2026 and March 10, 2027. Priority is given first to internal candidates, with external applicants considered afterward. Only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of washrooms, including sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, towel dispensers, and windows.
- Sweep, mop floors and stairs, and vacuum carpets diligently.
- Empty and sanitize waste containers appropriately.
- Clean walls, light fixtures, blinds, vents, doors, and radiators within reachable areas.
- Handle lifting, carrying, and relocating of supplies and furnishings safely.
- Operate cleaning machinery such as vacuum cleaners and carpet sweepers effectively.
- Maintain equipment by cleaning and replacing vacuum bags; report any malfunctions immediately.
- Report any necessary building or equipment repairs promptly.
- Restock cleaning agents and paper products as needed.
- Water plants and flowers to ensure their upkeep.
- Assist with emergency evacuation procedures, supporting residents with varying mobility.
- Adhere strictly to all applicable Health and Safety legislation and City policies regarding workplace safety.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned to support the housekeeping operation.
Candidate Qualifications
- Experience in cleaning roles gained through education and practical work.
- Prior experience in healthcare facility cleaning is advantageous.
- Familiarity operating cleaning equipment such as vacuums, carpet sweepers, and mops within healthcare settings.
- Physical ability to lift items up to 15 kilograms and exert up to 14.4 kilograms of pushing or pulling force.
- Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions thoroughly.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with colleagues and supervisors in a long-term care environment.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures, infection control standards, materials, and equipment use.
- Capacity to successfully complete required in-service training.
