Role overview
An opportunity has opened for a Band 3 Housekeeper to become part of the supportive team on Ffrancon Ward. The post plays an important part in keeping the ward running efficiently and in helping maintain a high standard of care for patients.
The role is focused on non-clinical support, including managing ward supplies, carrying out regular checks and audits, and helping ensure ward standards are consistently met. You will work alongside the Nurse in Charge and Ward Manager to raise concerns, share feedback with staff, and help maintain a safe, tidy, and well-run ward.
The ideal person will be organised, proactive, and comfortable working independently as well as with a multidisciplinary team. Good communication and IT ability are important for this post.
Welsh language ability is preferred for this role, although Welsh and English speakers are both encouraged to apply.
Main responsibilities
- Greet patients, relatives, and visitors, and help guide them appropriately while working with the wider ward team when needed.
- Support the nurse in charge by managing non-clinical ward activity and dealing with visitors and relatives promptly, with tact and empathy.
- Offer clear, professional information to patients and visitors.
- Pass on messages accurately and keep all information confidential.
- Deal with minor issues or complaints where possible and escalate more serious matters to senior colleagues.
- Stay aware of and follow standards relating to food hygiene, infection prevention and control, and waste segregation.
- Help the Ward Manager keep ward accreditation records up to date and, where relevant, monitor compliance with mandatory training requirements.
- Assist with updates to local ward policies and procedures.
- Support the ordering, storage, and monitoring of ward supplies and equipment, using resources efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Help create and maintain a clean, safe, organised ward environment that supports good patient care and experience.
