Overview
Mercer University College of Pharmacy invites applications for a Research Scientist position located in Atlanta, GA. The role is based in the Hasan Lab and involves leading and collaborating on innovative projects aimed at cardiovascular drug discovery. The focus areas include ion channels and G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) targeting novel treatments for hypertension, stroke, and cardiometabolic conditions.
Key Responsibilities
The selected researcher will independently design and conduct experiments utilizing techniques such as pressure myography, calcium imaging, advanced microscopy, flow cytometry, genetic methods, cell culture, molecular biology assays (luminescence, ELISA, Western blot), enzyme activity measurements, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, biophysical ligand-receptor analyses, blood pressure monitoring, and computational modeling including molecular dynamics simulations. Additional duties include assisting in grant writing, manuscript development, and managing lab operations ensuring compliance with scientific rigor and reproducibility standards. This position carries a high degree of autonomy and strategic influence on the research direction.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Pharmacology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, or closely related biomedical discipline.
- At least three years of postdoctoral experience demonstrating capability for independent research leadership and program development.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Proven track record in grant and manuscript preparation with competitive publication history.
- Experience with grant applications, including leadership roles.
- Familiarity with animal models for hypertension, stroke, diabetes, and pulmonary hypertension.
- Strong background in cardiovascular science, metabolic disorders, and intracellular signal transduction pathways.
- Capability to design, execute, and oversee research projects from initiation to publication.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and within interdisciplinary teams.
