About the Role
Make-A-Wish Ireland is dedicated to granting wishes for children facing critical medical conditions, aiming to bring them hope, strength, and joy. We depend heavily on a nationwide network of community volunteers who support fundraising efforts and assist throughout the entire wish process.
This pivotal role of National Volunteer Coordinator is a full-time permanent position located in Dublin, offering an exciting chance to lead and revamp our volunteer engagement strategies during this time of organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, screen, interview, and train volunteers to build a strong, committed team.
- Collaborate with community organizations and volunteer agencies to attract a diverse range of volunteer candidates.
- Promote volunteering through targeted campaigns including online platforms and events.
- Manage volunteer applications ensuring compliance and performance standards.
- Engage with the Make-A-Wish affiliate network to exchange best practices.
- Oversee volunteer administration including updating handbooks, policies, Salesforce records, Garda vetting, and website content.
- Work closely with Wishgranting and Fundraising teams to implement effective volunteer strategies.
- Assist in developing the STARBOARD initiative (a wish children’s board) alongside the Head of Wishgranting.
- Stay updated on relevant national policies supporting volunteers and the charity’s operations.
- Maintain and nurture volunteer engagement through support, motivation, and clear communication plans.
- Design and execute volunteer training, development, and recognition programs.
- Support volunteer committees in problem-solving and process improvements.
- Provide volunteer staffing for fundraising events such as Wish Week and golf tournaments.
- Coordinate volunteer scheduling for community support in partnership with Wishgranting.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience in designing and executing strategic plans for national organizations.
- Strong alignment and passion for Make-A-Wish Ireland’s mission and values.
- Competence in managing, supervising, and empowering volunteers effectively.
- Experience with database management systems such as Salesforce or equivalents.
- A highly motivated, creative self-starter capable of building strong relationships.
- Project leadership abilities and experience managing cross-department collaborations.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and multitasking capability.
- Strong administrative, financial, analytical, planning, and budgeting experience.
- Team-oriented approach with excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, and willingness to travel.
- Possession of a full clean driving license.
Preferred Skills
- Additional background in fundraising, social media management, or marketing is desirable.
