Position Overview
We are partnering with a leading Oil & Gas operator to recruit a Head of Construction specializing in Fabrication for offshore compression projects. This is a long-term contractual position based on-site in Qatar, requiring residential attendance and a demanding work schedule.
Key Details
- Job Title: Head of Construction (Fabrication)
- Location: Onshore, site-based in Qatar
- Contract Duration: 36 months, with possible extension
- Work Schedule: 6 days per week, 10 hours per day
- Start Date: Negotiable, generally within a one-month notice period
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead planning, preparation, and execution of all fabrication requirements covering yard activities through load out, ensuring all targets are met or surpassed.
- Ensure fabrication constructability aligns with approved project engineering drawings, adhering to industry processes and standards.
- Manage coordination between company and contractor teams to maintain full alignment on fabrication execution.
- Report to the Execution Division Manager while enforcing all safety protocols throughout the fabrication process.
- Oversee fabrication tasks to meet prioritized objectives including safety, quality, and schedule compliance.
- Supervise contractors and subcontractors to validate compliance with contractual, project, and international standards regarding fabrication and mechanical completion.
- Review design deliverables for constructability and technical compliance provided by the engineering teams and contractors.
- Assess and address deviations from company LNG construction standards by collaborating with contractors and subcontractors to ensure consistent documentation and fabrication quality.
- Identify potential risks related to progress or quality and propose corrective measures.
- Evaluate contractors’ progress reports, highlighting critical issues and abnormalities.
- Maintain liaison with contractors/subcontractors for structure, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities and provide execution-focused solutions to promote safe transitions.
- Lead and actively participate in risk assessments, pre-job meetings, and technical discussions as required by company protocols.
- Participate in lessons learned sessions, ensuring implementation of previous and current project insights to continuously improve construction practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Sciences or Engineering.
Experience and Expertise
- At least 12 years of experience in large-scale construction projects within the Oil & Gas industry, including installation, fabrication, execution, completion, and hook-up.
- Minimum 2 years in supervisory or oversight roles involving contractor or vendor personnel management.
- Proven knowledge of project execution procedures and hands-on field management, including welding, lifting, mechanical testing, and completion processes.
- Experience working with Oil & Gas companies, contractors, or heavy construction service providers.
Technical and Business Competencies
- Familiarity with design standards, safety codes, and specifications relevant to major fabrication, transport, installation, brownfield execution, and hook-up phases.
- Understanding of offshore and onshore facilities, including yard operations aligned to project requirements.
- Insight into execution risks associated with sour gas and LNG production facilities.
- Experience within large operational organizations across operations, projects, or subsurface functions.
