About the Role
We are seeking a thorough and experienced Driver and Trailer Assessor to augment our Fleet team based in Newport, Wales. This full-time permanent position involves a blend of duties including conducting driver assessments, ensuring transport compliance, installing telematics and dash cameras, providing driver coaching, and overseeing fleet safety initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with the Driver Trainer Manager to uphold exceptional safety standards, guarantee regulatory compliance, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of our fleet operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out assessments for drivers and deliver coaching aimed at boosting safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate trailer activities such as coupling/uncoupling, ensuring safe loading practices, and documenting defects.
- Utilize telematics and dash camera data to monitor driver conduct.
- Generate performance analyses and offer constructive feedback to drivers.
- Install, set up, and maintain telematics and dash camera equipment throughout the fleet.
- Address technical equipment issues and coordinate with vendors as needed.
- Lead Toolbox Talks and safety briefings for drivers and operational personnel.
- Perform unannounced inspections focusing on vehicle walk-arounds and daily defect reporting compliance.
- Confirm that drivers adhere to company policies, legal regulations, and fleet protocols.
- Foster a workplace culture emphasizing safety, responsibility, and continuous improvements.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in transport or fleet operations management.
- Holding a qualification as a Driver Assessor or Driver Instructor.
- Strong understanding of UK transport laws and fleet compliance standards.
- Experience working with telematics platforms and analyzing driver performance metrics.
- Skilled in delivering Toolbox Talks and conducting audits or compliance reviews.
- Possession of a valid UK Driving Licence.
- Excellent organizational abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficient with IT and comfortable using various technology and reporting tools.
Working Conditions and Salary
The role offers a competitive annual salary of £30,600, operating Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. While primarily based in Newport, travel requirements are expected.
