Role Overview
Join Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation team as a Critical Environment Technician based onsite at our Sydney data center. You will play a crucial role maintaining the infrastructure that ensures our datacenter operations run seamlessly. This involves coordination with suppliers and vendors, identifying safe and unsafe work conditions, hands-on maintenance of critical equipment, incident response, and monitoring equipment performance using telemetry and related platforms.

Key Responsibilities
- Act as a specialist in a specific critical environment domain such as electrical, mechanical, controls, or generators, independently managing advanced tasks.
- Perform regular inspections and supervision of critical environment equipment—including HVAC, controls, mechanical systems—and building grounds to detect unsafe or abnormal conditions, escalating issues in line with policies and procedures.
- Utilize the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document and manage equipment assets and maintenance requests.
- Lead onsite responses to operational incidents promptly and safely, coordinating corrective actions with other facilities professionals without direct supervision.
- Develop, improve, or adhere to emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to critical environment operations and incident response.
- Conduct various maintenance activities—including planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance—for one or more equipment types following established procedures.
- Troubleshoot and understand operational mechanics of equipment, systems, and subsystems within specialized disciplines independently.
- Provide guidance and support to junior colleagues in resolving technical issues.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety and security protocols such as job hazard assessments, environmental health and safety practices, and toolbox talks to ensure quality, safe, and reliable operations in alignment with Microsoft’s standards.

Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma, GED, TAFE certificate or equivalent plus at least 1 year of experience in mission-critical service environments including data centers, manufacturing, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, or related fields.
- Alternatively, equivalent relevant industry experience.
Preferred:
- High school diploma or equivalent and 3+ years experience in critical infrastructure or manufacturing sectors.
- Associate degree, technical trade certification, or higher education with 3+ years experience in mission-critical services.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
Security and Compliance
- Must successfully pass Microsoft Cloud background checks upon hire and biennially thereafter.
- Australian citizenship verification and valid Australian passport required for federal government security compliance.
- May be subject to advanced security vetting by Australian Government agencies as applicable.
Additional Information
This position is based 100% onsite in a Sydney data center.

Minimum education
Higher Secondary (Class 12)
