Role Overview
We are expanding our AI capabilities within Seequent Evo, a leading geoscience data platform, and seek a Team Lead to spearhead an AI engineering group. This role fuses advanced expertise in Generative AI with leadership to guide the development, integration, and scaling of cutting-edge GenAI features in our platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and nurture a high-calibre AI engineering team, fostering collaboration and growth.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to engineer team members, aligning skills to project goals.
- Manage task allocation and spearhead recruitment to expand AI capabilities.
- Drive technical architecture and solution design for complex GenAI systems, ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
- Oversee application of modelling approaches and AI design patterns, managing trade-offs and guaranteeing functional, security, and reliability standards.
- Conduct code and design reviews to ensure consistency and quality.
- Supervise development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of production-grade GenAI applications, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), semantic search with vector retrieval, and agent-oriented architectures (e.g., MCP, A2A).
- Ensure scalability, robustness, security, and maintainability of AI systems.
- Lead project delivery for medium-scale initiatives, handling scope, risk, timelines, and stakeholder coordination.
- Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to achieve impactful customer outcomes.
- Manage release planning, quality assurance, and retrospectives.
- Advocate for engineering best practices in software development, DevOps, security, continuous integration, and governance, improving processes and tooling.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least seven years of software engineering experience with senior or leadership roles.
- Proven team leadership capabilities, including mentoring and coaching engineers.
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating production systems powered by Generative AI and large language models (LLMs).
- Expertise in Generative AI, LLM application development, and RAG technologies.
- Proficiency with semantic search, vector database technologies, and agent-based architectures such as MCP or A2A.
- Experience with cloud-native development, microservices (Docker, Kubernetes, APIs like FastAPI), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong stakeholder communication skills and ability to balance technical contributions with leadership tasks.
Additional Information
This is an office-based position requiring a minimum of two days per week attendance at our Toronto office.
