Role Overview
We are seeking an Estimator/Senior Estimator located in Auckland who will deliver precise, impartial cost estimates for major infrastructure ventures. This position offers exposure to diverse, impactful projects and the chance to influence key service delivery through strategic insights.
Primary Duties
- Create detailed first-principles cost models for various project elements such as facilities, civil works, and pipework, emphasizing electrical components.
- Extract quantities from design documents and work collaboratively with engineering teams to ensure accuracy.
- Verify quantity and cost data provided by suppliers and subcontractors.
- Procure and evaluate supplier quotations, negotiating for optimal pricing.
- Identify and price risks early in project timelines.
- Organize cost estimates, bills of quantities, and bills of materials systematically.
- Compile comprehensive reports and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
- Provide integrated estimating services throughout project phases, delivering both strategic and technical guidance.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 5 to 10+ years' relevant experience, preferably in water utilities and associated sectors.
- Expertise in electrical estimation, including knowledge of LV/HV cabling, switchgear, transformers, SCADA systems, and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
- Possesses formal tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Engineering, or closely related fields.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with Power BI and CSS Candy/Quantum tools is advantageous.
- Strong analytical capabilities paired with excellent communication skills and confidence in stakeholder presentations.
- Experience in consultancy roles along with contractor-side exposure.
- Mechanical estimating background considered an asset.
- A cooperative team member with leadership potential and adept at relationship management.
