A partner company based in Australia is seeking an AI Researcher specializing in AI Architecture Research to join their innovative, research-oriented team. This role focuses on pioneering the future of AI through the design of new model architectures that transcend traditional Transformer-based methods. The position involves linking theoretical advances with practical, deployable AI systems while collaborating closely with researchers and engineers to deliver scalable, efficient, and high-performance AI solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Invent and assess novel AI model architectures beyond conventional Transformer frameworks.
- Explore methods to enhance model scalability, computational efficiency, training stability, and inference speed.
- Develop prototypes of innovative architectures and validate their effectiveness via comprehensive experiments, benchmarking, and ablation studies.
- Produce high-quality research publications for leading machine learning conferences, journals, and preprint platforms.
- Work closely with engineering teams to convert research breakthroughs into production-ready training and inference workflows.
- Keep up with emerging AI research trends to identify avenues for future innovations.
- Help shape the strategic research direction influencing next-generation AI models.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Extensive academic or industrial research experience in machine learning, focusing on AI model architectures.
- Documented publication record in prestigious AI or ML forums such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, COLM, ACL, EMNLP, or arXiv.
- Deep knowledge of neural network architectures, sequence modeling, attention mechanisms, optimization techniques, and training dynamics.
- Proficiency in building machine learning models with PyTorch or JAX.
- Demonstrated ability in designing robust experiments, critically analyzing outcomes, and effectively communicating research results.
- Comfort and agility working in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment with strong ownership culture.
- Experience with alternative architectures to Transformers—including long-context models, state-space models, hybrid architectures, or memory-efficient AI systems—is highly desirable.
