Job Overview

Nottingham City Council is looking to hire motivated Neighbourhood Safety Officers to provide community-driven services ensuring safety, cleanliness, and vibrancy in local neighborhoods within Nottingham city limits. This permanent role involves shift work totaling 37 hours per week, following a four-week rotating schedule predominantly between 9am-5pm with occasional later and weekend shifts.

Work Schedule and Location

  • Permanent contract with eight available positions
  • Shift pattern: Three weeks of 9am-5pm and one week of 1pm-9pm Monday to Friday, including one Saturday every four weeks (10am-6pm), followed by a rest day the subsequent week — subject to ongoing review
  • Work primarily based at Byron House, Nottingham NG1 6HS, and various other locations throughout Nottingham City Boundary

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary £32,597 (Level one) rising to £35,412 annually (pro rata for part-time roles)

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a vital part of the Neighbourhood Safety Team delivering excellent customer-focused services
  • Maintain and enhance neighborhood safety and cleanliness to benefit residents and businesses
  • Develop strong relationships and act as a trusted liaison with local stakeholders, residents, and organizations
  • Use problem-solving skills to implement preventative strategies, educational initiatives, and enforcement actions to address neighborhood concerns
  • Apply enforcement tools such as fixed penalty notices and regulations under the Crime and Policing Act 2014 and the Environmental Protection Act as necessary

Candidate Profile

  • Effective communication skills that balance attentive listening, empathy, assertiveness, and negotiation
  • Keen attention to detail with excellent record-keeping capabilities suitable for diverse situations
  • Practical experience working within communities, valuing citizen involvement and participation
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant enforcement legislation and associated procedures
  • Must have undergone Non-Police Personal Vetting (NPPV) security check and have residency in the UK for the previous three years
