Museum Education Coordinator

Overview

Join the Rotorua Lakes Council team in New Zealand as a Museum Education Coordinator and help shape the educational experiences that bring Rotorua’s rich heritage and culture to life. This full-time onsite role involves engaging with local schools, iwi, and the community to promote history and culture through interactive learning programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, promote, deliver, and assess educational programmes related to Rotorua’s heritage, culture, and history.
• Develop curriculum-based learning experiences for schools and education groups, including Ministry of Education and Education Outside the Classroom initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, learning organisations, and community stakeholders to create meaningful and memorable educational content.
• Support the development of resources and programmes that enliven museum collections and local stories.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Possess a formal teaching qualification with practical experience delivering educational activities for children and youth.
• Good understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities.
• Deep appreciation for Mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori; fluency in te reo Māori and experience teaching in the language preferred.
• Ability to develop and deliver programmes bilingually in English and te reo Māori seen as a strong advantage.
• Experienced relationship builder who enjoys teamwork with colleagues, schools, whānau, iwi, and community organisations.
• Customer-focused, proactive approach to solving challenges and thriving in a dynamic environment.
