Role Overview
AWS Infrastructure Services manages the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS's worldwide infrastructure, supporting data centers with critical mechanical, electrical, and networking equipment. This team ensures continuous availability for customers by maintaining servers, storage, power, and cooling systems at peak operational standards.
We are seeking an experienced Data Center Engineering Operations Engineer specialized in electrical systems to join our expanding AWS data center teams in Riyadh. This role focuses on the hands-on operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment within AWS data centers, along with overseeing facility operations and enforcing safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold and promote exemplary safety standards and cultivate a safety-focused culture, taking ownership of safety initiatives and risk remediation.
- Support and maintain electrical and mechanical infrastructure hardware including UPS systems, switchgear, circuit breakers, ATS, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers.
- Operate and service emergency generators, fire/life safety equipment, and HVAC systems within the facility.
- Troubleshoot facility-wide and rack-level issues promptly within agreed service levels.
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures to drive corrective measures.
- Innovate operational processes to boost efficiency and reduce costs.
- Work rotational 12-hour shifts on a cycle of two day shifts followed by two night shifts, including weekends and holidays, plus be available for off-duty on-call emergencies.
- Conduct daily operational rounds monitoring mechanical and electrical systems and supervise contractors performing maintenance and servicing tasks.
- Occasionally handle material movement within regulated weight limits, work under various weather conditions, noise environments, at height, and on ladders.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, construction management, or a related technical field.
- Solid understanding of electrical theory and competencies.
- Familiarity with mechanical and HVAC systems and controls.
- Experience in electric, mechanical, and control system operations within critical facility environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in data center engineering roles.
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), including data collection and trending.
