Position Summary
The Credit Balance Specialist role focuses on managing patient and insurance refunds. This includes printing refund checks queued on various systems, preparing check registers, securing necessary approvals, and ensuring timely mailing of refunds and related correspondence.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate and print refund checks from respective systems adhering to clients' monthly deadlines.
- Prepare and submit check registers to clients for approval.
- Monitor the status of refund checks and dispatch them once authorized.
- Print and send overpayment notification letters to payors along with appropriate Explanation of Benefits (EOB) documentation.
- Maintain and track inventory levels of check stock.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of three years' experience dealing with credit balances, refunds, and/or billing systems.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Comprehension of and adherence to applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
- Excellent communication skills suitable for interacting professionally with diverse individuals.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced work setting.
- Basic proficiency with computer operations, telephone, internet, copier, fax, and scanning equipment.
- Competence in using touch 10-key calculators and basic math abilities.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel (including pivot tables), and database software.
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
