Job description

About the Role

Join Serco as a Correctional Officer at the Adelaide Remand Centre, where you will actively ensure the safety and security of prisoners and the facility through vigilant monitoring and respectful engagement. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering best-practice prisoner intake, assessment, and induction, assisting individuals transitioning into South Australia's prison system or back into the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain security and safety of the facility by applying dynamic supervision and compliance procedures.
  • Support a culturally aware and diverse environment respecting all backgrounds.
  • Oversee prisoners' daily activities and management routines.
  • Participate in prisoner intake, transfer, and discharge operations.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams providing health, mental health, and case management services.
  • Respond professionally to incidents, employing appropriate de-escalation techniques.
  • Encourage prisoner reintegration by promoting family, community, cultural links, and legal assistance.

Candidate Profile

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively resolve conflicts.
  • Empathetic, respectful attitude towards diverse colleagues, peers, and prisoners.
  • Physical fitness to meet role demands, including training in control and restraint techniques.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
  • Valid driving licence with capability to obtain necessary clearances.
  • No prior experience required; comprehensive training and paid on-the-job certification (including Certificate III) are provided.

Benefits and Work Environment

  • Earning potential up to $80,000 per annum including overtime and penalty rates.
  • Public holiday pay rates between $62 and $70 per hour; Sunday rates from $49 to $56 per hour; Saturday rates from $37 to $42 per hour.
