Department and Reporting

This role is situated within the Quality Assurance and Operations departments and reports directly to the Manager, COO, or CEO.

Location and Industry

The position is located at the Nairobi head office with routine travel to project and client locations. The company specializes in Rope Access services compliant with IRATA standards.

Role Purpose

The Quality Control / Quality Assurance Personnel is tasked with planning, executing, and overseeing quality control and assurance efforts across all rope access operations. Ensuring full adherence to IRATA International Code of Practice (ICOP), the company’s Quality Management System, ISO standards, client requirements, and regulatory norms is central to this position. Collaboration with Operations and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) teams ensures consistent quality and safety standards are maintained and auditable per project.

Primary Duties

  • Design and uphold the company’s Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001 and IRATA ICOP standards.
  • Perform scheduled quality audits and on-site inspections to assess compliance with client specifications.
  • Inspect, verify, and certify personal protective equipment (PPE) and rope access tools following manufacturer and IRATA guidelines; maintain equipment inspection and calibration logs.
  • Monitor Team Leader and Technician adherence via management feedback, IRATA logbooks, and competence documentation.
  • Investigate discrepancies, incidents, and client grievances; lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Produce and manage quality-related documentation including standard operating procedures, inspection and audit reports, and non-conformance records.
  • Engage with clients, IRATA, certification agencies, and regulators during audits, inspections, and certification renewals.
  • Track and report quality metrics such as audit outcomes, non-conformance patterns, and rework statistics to senior leadership.
  • Support recruitment by validating candidate certifications and qualifications before field deployment.
  • Manage comprehensive document control and records for certifications, licenses, and permits related to quality.
  • Coordinate quality assurance efforts with HSE to integrate safety and quality compliance.
  • Stay informed on updates to IRATA standards, ISO protocols, and relevant national and international regulations.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Diploma or degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or related disciplines.
  • Mandatory recognized quality control/certification such as ISO 9001 Lead or Internal Auditor, ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or equivalent.
  • Preference for candidates willing to learn IRATA rope access due to operational context.
  • Additional beneficial certifications include NEBOSH, Six Sigma, or other recognized QA/QC or HSE qualifications.

Experience Required

  • At least 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in quality assurance or control roles, preferably within construction, oil and gas, or industrial services sectors.
  • Proven track record in performing audits, developing and administering quality procedures, and ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Experience with IRATA member companies or height-safety environments is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Understanding of permit-to-work systems, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

Skills and Competencies

  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality standards including ISO 9001 and IRATA ICOP, alongside regulatory requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills for root cause investigations.
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and record management capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills in English and Swahili for stakeholder engagement at all levels.
  • Physical readiness to conduct field inspections including in height and rope access conditions with proper PPE and training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with quality management/documentation software.
  • High ethical standards with independent and objective reporting of compliance matters.

Working Conditions

  • Mainly office-based at company headquarters with frequent visits to project and client sites across Kenya and possibly neighboring countries.
  • Site inspections may involve working in industrial environments, heights, or confined spaces; complete safety induction and PPE are provided.
  • Normal office hours apply but flexibility is necessary to meet audit and project timelines.
