Job description
Overview
We are looking for a Glass Operative to join a reputable, specialist glass manufacturing company in Bristol. This full-time, permanent role provides an opportunity to work with premium fire-rated glass products in a fast-moving production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate glass cutting and processing machinery efficiently.
- Set up and calibrate glass feeding, flow, and forming equipment.
- Cut glass and mirrors accurately to required dimensions using measuring and cutting tools.
- Interpret patterns, drawings, and specifications for precise glass preparation.
- Examine glass for defects to optimize cutting results.
- Utilize hand tools and specialist equipment to remove excess glass edges.
- Polish and finish glass edges with sanding and polishing machines.
- Handle furnaces to produce toughened glass products.
- Perform sandblasting on glass surfaces following production standards.
- Manage loading and unloading of stillages for storage and dispatch.
- Track inventory, log batch numbers, and document production data.
- Conduct quality checks consistently to uphold production standards.
- Follow health and safety guidelines and company policies rigorously.
- Collaborate with the production team as needed to support operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience within the glass manufacturing industry.
- Sound knowledge of glass production techniques and related processes.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and instructions.
- High attention to detail and dedication to quality workmanship.
- Capable of meeting production targets efficiently and accurately.
- Positive, proactive approach with ability to work independently and with a team.
- Good communication skills and problem-solving ability.
- Strong awareness of health and safety practices, especially manual handling.
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualifications are beneficial but not mandatory.
- Experience with CNC machinery and manufacturing qualifications are advantageous.
Working Conditions
- Permanent, full-time role working 40 hours per week.
- Monday through Friday schedule with possible overtime according to production needs.
