About the Role
This permanent, full-time position is based in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, offering an excellent work-life balance within a vibrant outdoor environment. The successful candidate will join a dedicated, community-oriented team focused on enhancing learning and promoting social inclusion for children and youth with learning support needs.
As a Speech Language Therapist, your primary responsibilities include comprehensively assessing the effects of speech and language difficulties on children and young people within their homes, educational settings, and communities. You will collaborate closely with parents, caregivers, educators, and other professionals to facilitate the development of speech, language, and communication skills. Additionally, you will participate actively in a trans-disciplinary team to address complex individual needs holistically.
The role is physically located at the Rotorua office, but candidates living in nearby South Waikato or wider Bay of Plenty who are willing to commute are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate how speech and language difficulties impact children and young people across various settings.
- Collaborate extensively with families, teachers, and specialists to support communication development.
- Contribute as a member of a trans-disciplinary team managing complex learning needs.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech Language Therapy or an equivalent qualification recognized by the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association.
- In-depth knowledge of speech and language theory, research, child and human development, and learning and behaviour.
- Ability to convert specialist knowledge into actionable practical guidance.
- Experience coordinating services within a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with learners, families, and educators across diverse settings.
- Understanding and application of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.
- Possession of a current full driver’s license due to travel requirements.
- Commitment to uphold the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About the Team
This role is part of Te Mahau | Education Services Group, which offers integrated educational services intended to support the efficient functioning of educational settings and to enhance student participation and achievement. The Learning Support team specifically focuses on ensuring children and young people with additional learning needs can reach their potential. The team collaborates closely with families, schools, and other agencies across both English and Māori mediums.
Additional Information
Salary: $69,966 - $106,016 per annum plus KiwiSaver; exact placement will match the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
