Position Summary
We are looking for a seasoned Mortgage Underwriter to enhance our Mortgage Operations team based in Frisco, TX or Charlotte, NC. This role involves thorough review and evaluation of Conventional and FHA loan applications, applying independent credit judgment to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency within a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess mortgage applications adhering to investor and GSE guidelines.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of borrower creditworthiness, income, collateral, including intricate self-employment income.
- Perform liquidity assessments for businesses using Schedule L, including adjustments for inventory-heavy entities.
- Make prompt and compliant underwriting decisions aligned with SoFi and investor requirements.
- Handle high-volume pipelines effectively, striving to achieve at least five new credit decisions daily while maintaining quality and production standards.
- Collaborate closely with processors and loan officers to address and resolve conditions, ensuring smooth loan processing.
- Detect and escalate any risks related to fraud or guideline deviations.
- Utilize expertise in DU/LP systems and investor overlays.
- Participate actively in continuous process enhancements through teamwork and constructive feedback.
Qualifications and Requirements
- At least two years of recent experience underwriting both Conventional and FHA mortgage loans.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently assess credit risks.
- Proficiency in DU, LP, and FHA Connection systems.
- Experience analyzing self-employment income and conducting Schedule L liquidity tests.
- Deep understanding of credit policies, financial statements, and property appraisal.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly and professionally explain complex situations.
- Proven ability to balance quality control with high-volume production demands.
- Preference for experience with lending nuances specific to Texas.
- Ability to adhere to a hybrid work schedule requiring two days weekly presence in the Frisco, TX office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active SAR or VA credit authority.
- Current FHA DE (Direct Endorsement) certification.
- Experience underwriting Jumbo or USDA loans.
- Possession of a college degree.
- Background in fraud detection or risk mitigation.
