Overview
This role as a Senior Market Research Analyst, based within the Data Operations and Reporting team, involves delivering detailed tourism economics and market insights for a government client. The position is on a contract basis at a rate of $76 per hour including superannuation, with a tenure from ASAP until 30th October. It follows a hybrid work schedule requiring presence onsite every Wednesday and Thursday at 88 Cumberland Street, Sydney, with 60% of working hours onsite and 40% remote. Standard work hours are 7 hours daily, 35 hours weekly, excluding New South Wales public holidays.
Primary Duties
- Generate comprehensive reports, briefings, snapshots, and presentations focused on tourism economics, visitation, and market trends.
- Respond to both specified and open-ended queries by producing tailored ad-hoc tourism insights.
- Create clear, concise stakeholder-ready commentaries that describe key findings, trend implications, and necessary disclaimers.
- Design and implement desktop market research projects.
- Ensure meticulous documentation of data origins, assumptions, and methodologies supporting reporting results.
Challenges
- Quickly adapt to a short-term role by independently delivering basic reporting outputs from data analysis to final reports within two weeks under guidance.
- Operate within pre-established workflows and templates in Business Intelligence systems to provide scalable reporting outputs.
- Translate complex datasets into accessible language focused on actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
- Maintain rigorous attention to the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data.
- Effectively manage deadline-driven workload priorities and provide structured daily updates on progress, challenges, and team resource needs.
Key Skills and Experience
- Proven track record of producing research reports, market insights, stakeholder briefings, and presentation materials.
- Advanced proficiency with data analytic tools including Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel (with Power Query), and Power BI.
- Tertiary education in tourism, marketing, statistics, commerce, economics, or a related field.
- At least four years of professional experience in economic studies, market research, consumer insights, or tourism data analytics.
