Role Summary

Under the direction of the Building Services Director at Macassa Lodge and Wentworth Lodge, this position involves cleaning, portering, and room setup duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate cleaning equipment including scrubbers, buffers, carpet and furniture cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, can washers, and pressure washers.
  • Collect and transport garbage, recycling, compost, and soiled laundry to designated processing areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness of outdoor areas such as parking lots, patios, and balconies by sweeping and debris removal.
  • Perform floor care through dry and wet mopping, including placing safety signs.
  • Relocate furniture items such as hospital beds, filing cabinets, lockers, and desks.
  • Distribute and transport supplies throughout various departments.
  • Prepare rooms for special events following work orders and floor plans, requiring the ability to read and interpret these documents.
  • Handle residents’ furniture transportation and placement.
  • Refinish floors by scrubbing, stripping, coating, and finishing.
  • Vacuum and deep-clean carpets and upholstered furniture.
  • Clean walls, staircases, furnishings, windows, doors, elevators, and blinds, sometimes using ladders.
  • Sanitize washrooms, resident rooms, offices, kitchens, storage, and common spaces.
  • Remove and replace drapes, privacy curtains, and blinds, possibly using ladders.
  • Assist in emergency resident evacuations.
  • Respond to emergencies such as floods and spills for immediate clean-up.
  • Adhere strictly to all applicable health and safety laws and organizational policies.
  • Perform additional tasks related to primary responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Previous cleaning experience gained through education and relevant work, with preference for healthcare settings.
  • Competence in using cleaning machines and equipment listed above.
  • Physical ability to lift and push/pull items up to 20 kg, including moving hospital beds, large recycling containers, filing cabinets, specialty mattresses, and desks.
  • Experience in floor refinishing techniques.
  • Capability and experience cleaning surfaces at heights using ladders.
  • Self-driven with minimal supervision, able to handle multiple tasks and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Maintains confidentiality and communicates professionally with colleagues and supervisors in a long-term care context.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders and layouts for event preparations.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning procedures, materials, and equipment.

Additional Information

This is a union position under CUPE Local 5167 Lodges. The posting covers both permanent and temporary full-time and part-time roles spanning the period from September 9, 2026 to March 9, 2027. Both current and future vacancies during this timeframe will be filled from this posting.
