Chief Communications Officer

About the Role

Phifer & Company is conducting an exclusive retained search for a Chief Communications Officer (CCO) to join a fast-growing e-commerce company based in the New York City Metropolitan Area. This recruitment is a succession search, aiming to appoint a CCO to lead the organization’s communications as it enters its next phase of development. The role reports directly to the CEO and commands strong executive sponsorship with an established, well-funded communications division.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee corporate narrative and brand reputation management.
• Develop and execute executive and CEO communication strategies.
• Manage relationships with leading media outlets and maintain media presence.
• Lead crisis communication and handle sensitive issues promptly and effectively.
• Steer internal communications to foster company culture.
• Manage and lead a team of 25 skilled communications professionals towards achieving organizational goals.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 18 years of progressive leadership experience in communications, preferably within e-commerce or direct-to-consumer sectors.
• Demonstrated ability as a strategic advisor to CEOs and boards of directors.
• Established deep media connections and proven experience handling crisis communications.
• Record of building, mentoring, and managing large, high-performing communications teams.
• Advanced degree such as an MBA or related field is preferred.

Compensation & Terms

The compensation package includes a base salary of $400,000 or more, performance bonuses ranging from 30% to 50%, and long-term incentives. This executive-level employment is onsite in the New York City area.
