Business Analyst

Overview

Rail Delivery Group (RDG) is seeking a Business Analyst to collaborate with programme and project managers, focusing initially on Digital Ticketing Services. The role involves identifying and defining business analysis components for various projects, aiding in planning and delivering these activities efficiently. You will leverage your business insight, technical know-how, and problem-solving ability to help RDG implement cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the scope for change and procurement initiatives clearly.
• Engage with customers, technical teams, and other stakeholders to gather detailed needs and evaluate solution options, benefits, and risks.
• Translate high-level stakeholder requirements into detailed functional and non-functional specifications for procurement use.
• Present analysis outcomes and requirements to internal and external parties.
• Conduct data analysis to support deliverable development.
• Manage requirement prioritization effectively.
• Contribute to evaluating supplier proposals and assess their ability to fulfill requirements through existing or new solutions.
• Review technical designs ensuring solutions align with requirements and rail industry standards.
• Define acceptance criteria and verify supplier adherence to specifications and project objectives.
• Support training delivery and prepare training materials for users.
• Measure and report on benefits achieved from implementations.
• Advise on future development roadmaps.
• Work collaboratively within the RDG Business Analysis Practice to uphold standards and ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Coordinate with Delivery, Project, Programme Managers, and the Business Analysis Practice Lead.
• Collaborate with internal functions such as architecture, finance, procurement, legal teams, and senior stakeholders including Train Operating Companies (TOCs) and third-party suppliers.

Experience and Skills Required

• Minimum of three years’ professional experience as a business analyst or in a related role.
• Expertise in requirements gathering and documentation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Familiarity with all phases of the project development lifecycle.
• Proficiency in documenting requirements through use cases, user stories, and similar methods.
• Able to distill complex issues into clear requirements and business rules.
• Experience navigating complex stakeholder settings and eliciting requirements from multiple parties.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation for requirements extraction.
• Understanding of current and future operating model definitions.
• Competency in system and business process modeling and reengineering.
• Skilled in collaboration and facilitating workshops to gather requirements and challenge assumptions.
• Attention to detail with a strong commitment to problem resolution.
• Excellent written communication for documentation, reporting, and stakeholder presentations.
• Proactive, delivery-focused mindset.
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Capability to balance diverse needs and escalate conflicts judiciously.
• Experience with agile and traditional project management frameworks.
• Beneficial skills include data analysis (Excel/SQL), use of modeling tools (Visio), professional BA certifications (IIBA, BCS), procurement processes (RFI, RFP), and rail industry knowledge.
