Role Overview
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) plays a critical role in assuring that all supplied components and materials comply with the required quality specifications for production. Acting as the main communication bridge between the manufacturing plant and suppliers, the SQE focuses on quality assurance, performance monitoring, and resolving supplier-related quality challenges. Collaboration with internal departments like Manufacturing, Engineering, and Corporate Supplier Quality is essential to maintain high supplier standards and implement necessary corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in supplier process reviews, quality audits, development of control plans, process capability studies, and gage assessments.
- Support part qualification stages, including approvals for components based on their criticality.
- Lead activities in supplier qualification and selection, including conducting supplier quality assessments.
- Generate and analyze quality performance metrics reflecting supplier effectiveness.
- Identify and promote opportunities for supplier development and process enhancements while managing corrective actions and root cause analyses.
- Initiate, monitor, and verify implementation and effectiveness of Supplier Corrective Action Requests.
- Address and resolve supplier-related quality issues promptly.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure incoming materials meet specifications.
- Work with suppliers to design and execute quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to production output improvements through continuous and lean initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Quality Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in engineering or a related discipline, or substantial direct experience in quality assurance, or a combination thereof.
- Familiarity with quality methodologies and tools such as 8D, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Proficient in computer applications including word processing, databases, data analysis, spreadsheets, planning, and desktop publishing software.
- Experience with diverse data analysis and problem-solving methods.
- Competence in conducting supplier process/system audits aligned with ISO 9001 standards; internal auditor certification is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills suitable for presenting to varied organizational audiences.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 40%, domestically and internationally.
