About Elmwood International School

Role Overview
This full-time, on-site position based in Kumasi involves coordinating the Special Needs Department. The coordinator is responsible for planning, delivering, and adjusting lessons tailored to students with diverse learning requirements, ensuring compatibility with the British curriculum. Duties include evaluating student strengths and needs, creating Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and applying research-backed instructional methods and accommodations.
Key Duties and Collaborations
The coordinator works in close partnership with classroom teachers, learning support personnel, and families to foster inclusion and facilitate student progress. Responsibilities also encompass maintaining comprehensive records and reports, managing behavior support, conducting small group or one-on-one interventions, and engaging in school-wide initiatives and ongoing professional learning.
Qualifications and Skills
- Thorough knowledge of Special Education and experience with learners having diverse disabilities
- Proven teaching abilities and background supporting primary or middle school students
- Strong communication aptitude for engaging with students, families, and colleagues
- Relevant degree or certification in Special Education, Inclusive Education, or related disciplines
- Experience with the British educational system or international schools is advantageous
- Competency in designing differentiated lesson plans and implementing IEPs or tailored support plans
- Capability to cultivate an inclusive, respectful, and safe learning environment
- Dedication to continuous professional development and culturally responsive pedagogy
