About the role
Google is hiring a software engineer for its Payments Identity area in Sydney. This position focuses on building intelligent, automated identity verification workflows that support Google products and external partners while meeting international compliance needs. You’ll work closely with technical leads and help solve challenging problems related to digital trust, safety, and large-scale platform integration.
The role is part of a fast-moving engineering environment where you may contribute to work that spans multiple teams and projects as business needs evolve. Google values engineers who are adaptable, collaborative, and ready to take on complex technical challenges across the stack.

Minimum qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- At least 2 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, or JavaScript.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including UX and Product, and turning feature ideas into actionable engineering work.
- Background in developing accessible technologies.
- Understanding of data structures and algorithms.
Responsibilities
- Work with Product Managers, Program Managers, and Technical Leads to convert detailed platform requirements into well-structured code.
- Develop and update code that integrates the platform with multiple clients and Google products.
- Adjust and tailor solutions to satisfy regional regulatory obligations across different countries while keeping the platform globally consistent and locally compliant.
- Diagnose and fix difficult issues involving identity data handling, rule engine settings, and secure information processing.
- Improve service quality by writing durable code, creating thorough tests, taking part in code reviews, and strengthening engineering practices.
