The Role

We seek a Senior Writer to join our rapid prototyping Skunk Works team. This pivotal role involves enhancing and developing pre-existing game concepts that need refinement and validation. You will serve as a key liaison, clearly communicating with various company stakeholders and managing their expectations. Your responsibility will be to own and articulate the narrative framework of our prototypes by defining core values, themes, tone, mood, characters, dialogue, and narrative arcs that can support ongoing episodic storytelling in case the prototypes succeed.

Responsibilities

• Critically evaluate, clarify, and polish game concepts from the development backlog.
• Collaborate closely with original concept authors to devise narrative arcs that sustain episodic content.
• Define plotlines, themes, tone, moods, character profiles, and settings based on given project premises to guide prototype development.
• Create storyboards outlining key story beats to assist developers during prototype creation.
• Provide advice and constructive critiques to co-development teams regarding prototype narrative elements.
• Plan and oversee the organization of recording sessions for story-driven audio content.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in writing within the gaming industry.
• Proven ability in storyboarding for games, television, or film projects.
• Deep appreciation and understanding of nuanced, in-world storytelling that employs subtle and morally gray elements.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, especially in remote-first work settings.
• A service-oriented mindset passionate about animating worlds and characters drawn from diverse sources.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working alongside design and art teams to implement immersive world-building.
• Background in directing voice actors in recording sessions.
• A strong enthusiasm for horror-themed and atmospheric storytelling.
• Additional experience with storyboarding is advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range varies based on location and other factors, including experience and qualifications:

• San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, Washington DC metropolitan areas: $104,000 – $136,000 USD per year
• Austin, Denver, Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Miami metropolitan areas: $91,000 – $118,500 USD per year
• Other U.S. locations: $77,000 – $101,000 USD per year
