About the Role

The Product Detail Page team at a leading global e-commerce company is seeking a dedicated and skilled Applied Scientist to contribute to the design and development of a scalable, multi-tiered shopping platform. The goal of this platform is to deliver an unparalleled online shopping experience globally. The team includes applied scientists, developers, program managers, designers, and product managers all focused on crafting the world's best purchasing environment.

Role Responsibilities

Scientists in this group innovate next-generation technologies and experiences that transform the way millions engage with online shopping. Achieving optimal online experiences at web-scale demands expertise in diverse areas including distributed computing, large-scale system design, machine learning, natural language processing, data compression, and user interface engineering. Flexibility and eagerness to solve emerging challenges are essential as technology continuously evolves.

The team applies advanced econometric methods, big data analytics, and machine learning to assist customers in finding the most suitable products and prices across millions of sellers billions of times daily.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing advanced Detail Page optimization algorithms that dynamically adapt to the evolving preferences of customers. Collaboration across multiple business units and programs will be required to uncover significant business opportunities and to propose innovative features and technical solutions enhancing customer interactions on product detail pages, search pages, and other website components.

Ownership over algorithm design quality is expected, alongside opportunities to present findings and proposals to senior leadership. The role also includes working closely with senior scientists to define and uphold company-wide standards in optimization, statistical modeling, simulation, and data analytics.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years’ experience building machine learning solutions with real business impact.
• PhD or Master's degree in a relevant field.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with neural networks and deep learning approaches.
• Track record of patents or publications in prestigious, peer-reviewed academic journals or conferences.
• Expertise in areas such as algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, distributed computing, or high-performance computing.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with large-scale distributed computing systems like Hadoop and Spark.
• Corporate research experience is an advantage.
