Job Overview
The Custodian position at the University of Alabama in Huntsville Facilities & Operations department involves maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of university buildings. This full-time role operates between 10:00 AM and 6:45 PM. Responsibilities include cleaning a variety of campus areas like restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common spaces, ensuring they meet cleanliness standards and safety guidelines.
Core Duties
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, classrooms, offices, entrance areas, elevators, stairwells, and other designated spaces.
- Inspect assigned areas for cleanliness and perform cleaning tasks until satisfactory standards are met.
- Empty trash and recycling bins regularly.
- Maintain equipment and supplies by cleaning and securing them properly after use.
- Keep custodial storage areas organized, clean, and safe at all times.
- Deliver courteous customer service by greeting university members, communicating any area closures, addressing concerns promptly to management, and demonstrating respect.
- Adhere to industry safety standards and wear personal protective equipment as required.
- Operate cleaning equipment following proper procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Physical capability to operate cleaning equipment efficiently.
Preferred Experience
- Prior janitorial or custodial experience is beneficial.
Compensation
The salary ranges from $29,000 to $31,200, with an overall stated range up to $45,000.
