Role Overview
The Agronomy Manager will lead agronomic strategies and crop production initiatives with a focus on soil and nutrient management, irrigation optimization, crop health, field trials, research, and technology adoption to enhance yield, quality, profitability, and sustainability through data-driven practices.
Key Duties
- Formulate and execute agronomic plans aligned with organizational goals, sustainability, market needs, and farm performance.
- Plan crop production encompassing selection, planting, cultivation, irrigation, pest control, harvesting, and rotations.
- Partner with multidisciplinary teams such as agronomists, soil and plant scientists, researchers, procurement, data scientists, and executives.
- Create crop-specific protocols, nutrient and irrigation management plans, and agronomic standards.
- Monitor and improve soil health parameters including fertility, salinity, pH, and organic matter.
- Establish and track KPIs related to yield, quality, water and fertilizer efficiency, pest incidence, resource productivity, and profitability.
- Conduct comprehensive field assessments, crop scouting, pest and disease monitoring, and agronomic performance evaluations.
- Develop integrated pest management programs using biological, cultural, and chemical methods responsibly.
- Optimize irrigation through monitoring, scheduling, fertigation, and precision techniques.
- Lead nutrient management based on soil and tissue analyses considering crop needs and environmental impact.
- Manage field trials on crops, varieties, fertilizers, irrigation, biological inputs, and emerging agricultural technologies.
- Assess quality and performance of agricultural inputs and technologies, collaborating closely with procurement and supply teams.
- Implement sustainable practices addressing soil conservation, water efficiency, biodiversity, integrated pest control, nutrient use efficiency, carbon footprint, and waste minimization.
- Analyze environmental data to forecast risks and optimize agronomic decisions, also preparing contingency plans for droughts, heat, pests, diseases, and other challenges.
- Drive adoption of precision agriculture technologies including AI, remote sensing, GIS, IoT sensors, drones, automated irrigation, and data analytics platforms.
- Utilize various farm management and analytics software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Microsoft 365, Power BI, Tableau, Python, R as well as remote sensing and irrigation management tools.
- Ensure compliance with UAE regulations on agriculture, environment, safety, and sustainability.
- Manage agronomy budgets covering seeds, fertilizers, trials, technologies, and research programs.
- Prepare detailed reports, dashboards, and strategic recommendations for leadership review.
- Provide training and technical guidance to agronomy teams, operators, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor, and develop agronomy and crop production personnel fostering innovation, safety, scientific rigor, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agricultural or Crop Science, Soil Science, Horticulture, or related fields required; Master’s degree is highly preferred.
- Professional certifications or memberships relevant to agronomy, sustainable or precision agriculture favored.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in agronomy, crop production, research, or related roles with at least 2 years in management of agronomic programs or multidisciplinary farming projects.
- Strong expertise in crop physiology, soil science, irrigation, pest management, crop protection, sustainability, and farm operations.
- Proficiency with farm management systems, GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS), data analysis (Power BI, Tableau, Python, R), remote sensing, drones, weather platforms, and precision irrigation technologies.
- Knowledge of AI-driven crop modeling, satellite imagery, machine learning applications, and automated irrigation preferred.
- Excellent leadership, analytical, communication, project and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Ability to translate scientific research into actionable recommendations to enhance farm productivity and sustainability.
- Capability to manage multiple programs balancing yield, quality, resource use, environmental and commercial goals while working remotely with occasional travel.
