About the Role and Employer

Coventry City Council's Streetpride Service is responsible for street cleaning and grounds maintenance across the city, ensuring public spaces are clean, green, and attractive. Operating from three sites citywide, the service cleans 10,000 miles of roads annually and empties over 3,000 street bins weekly. It also maintains parks and open spaces, including five Green Flag Parks, cutting approximately 6 million square meters of grass every 20 working days—equivalent to about one thousand football pitches. This role is essential in supporting the community by maintaining a safer, cleaner, and more welcoming city environment.

Coventry City Council emphasizes inclusivity and diversity, encouraging applicants from all backgrounds including ethnic minorities, LGBT+, disabled, and neurodiverse individuals. The council's core values include fairness, development, engagement, innovation, accountability, and respect, which guide the work culture and service delivery.

  • Remove dead animals and manage waste such as dog fouling.
  • Maintain highway verges, parks, and public open spaces.
  • Operate vehicles and power tools like strimmers, hedge cutters, and various grass-cutting machines safely.

Working Hours and Shifts

This position involves weekend work on both Saturday and Sunday, with two rest days during the week. Working shifts are from 6 am to 2 pm with two available schedules: Thursday to Monday or Saturday to Wednesday. Additional pay is provided for weekend shifts.

Candidate Profile

  • Reliable and committed with a professional approach to assigned duties.
  • Physically capable of walking for long periods and performing tasks in all weather conditions.
  • Able to carry out labor-intensive duties involving bending, pulling, and lifting.
  • Customer service minded, displaying respect and calm when interacting with the public and managing challenging situations effectively.
  • Knowledgeable about workplace health and safety, including proper use of PPE.
  • Basic understanding of horticulture and ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Flexible to work across different shifts as needed.
  • Holds at least a Category B manual driving license.
