Role Overview

As an Early Career Software Engineer at Notion, you will contribute to the development of core user-facing features that accelerate value discovery for millions of users. This role offers opportunities to take ownership of impactful projects, make key technical decisions, and collaborate across design, product, and data teams to shape the future of work at Notion. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and release new product features, iterating based on insights and user feedback.
• Enhance the performance, reliability, and quality of essential experiences used globally.
• Conduct experiments to boost user activation, retention, collaboration, and revenue in partnership with design, data science, and research teams.
• Create internal tools and platform improvements that enable efficient and safe software delivery by engineering teams.
• Promote best practices in code quality, team culture, and learning through thoughtful decision-making.

Potential Areas of Work

• Develop and maintain key Notion product features such as the editor, databases, and sharing capabilities.
• Integrate intelligent AI and automation functionalities making Notion more powerful and user-friendly.
• Design features aimed at improving user onboarding, engagement, and growth.
• Support backend platform and infrastructure ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.

Required Qualifications

• Less than two years of professional engineering experience with a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• A pragmatic, customer-focused approach to solving complex problems with consideration for the real-world impact of your work.
• Ability to deconstruct ambiguous problems into clear solutions while balancing technical efforts with business outcomes.
• An impact-oriented mentality valuing effective technology use over trendy tools, with awareness of AI-assisted development environments.
• Strong initiative and communication skills, owning your responsibilities candidly and proactively.

Preferred Experience

• Familiarity with technologies such as React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, and Elasticsearch.
• Interest in the intersection of technology and society and a conscious approach to technological impact.

Compensation and Benefits

Notion offers competitive compensation packages including cash salary, equity, and benefits, with the salary range for San Francisco-based roles estimated between $130,000 and $150,000 annually. Actual compensation varies by location, role complexity, and candidate experience.
