Director of Self Perform Group

About the Role

A leading General Contractor in the Columbus metropolitan area is seeking a Director to lead and expand its self-perform operations focused on commercial and multifamily construction projects. This senior management role commands oversight of field operations, workforce strategy, safety, profitability, and growth initiatives across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all self-perform operations including workforce planning, field execution, safety compliance, and productivity management.
• Manage Superintendents, Foremen, and craftspeople teams across several active construction sites.
• Develop and implement strategies to grow the Self Perform Group while ensuring operational excellence.
• Collaborate with Operations, Preconstruction, and Executive teams to support project pursuits and execution.
• Enhance labor productivity, scheduling, quality control, and cost-efficiency initiatives.
• Create workforce plans, spearhead recruitment efforts, and foster employee retention programs.
• Ensure adherence to company safety standards and industry best practices.
• Monitor financial metrics including labor budgets, equipment use, and overall profitability.
• Mentor and cultivate future field leadership within the organization.
• Establish and maintain relationships with owners, trade partners, and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years experience in commercial construction with a General Contractor.
• Proven leadership managing self-perform construction operations.
• Experience supervising large craft labor teams, Superintendents, and Foremen.
• Preferred expertise in self-performed concrete, carpentry, interiors, sitework, or related trades.
• Strong knowledge of scheduling, labor productivity, project controls, and field operations.
• Track record of overseeing multiple projects and teams concurrently.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience in scaling construction operations is highly advantageous.
