Job description

Position Overview

Chevron TM, a part of Ramudden Global UK, is seeking Traffic Management Operatives, both qualified and trainees, based in Braintree. This role involves ensuring safety during roadworks by managing temporary road closures, diversion routes, and pedestrian walkways while using equipment such as cones, signs, barriers, and traffic lights. This is a physically demanding job requiring strict adherence to safety procedures and close teamwork.

Work Schedule

The role guarantees 48 hours per week with opportunities for overtime. Typical shifts are during the day, but flexibility is necessary to cover evenings, nights, weekends, work during peak periods away from base, and participation in an on-call rotation. Qualified operatives with company van access have added responsibilities in this area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installing, maintaining, and removing temporary traffic management systems
  • Setting up cones, signs, barriers, and safety equipment
  • Ensuring the safety of roadworkers and the public at all times
  • Communicating effectively with colleagues, clients, and control teams
  • Mentoring trainees by sharing knowledge and experience

Trainee Program

New trainees will work alongside qualified operatives to gain practical experience and work toward fully funded 12D qualifications under a training agreement.

Candidate Requirements

  • Knowledge of Chapter 8 regulations related to traffic management
  • Full driving licence with a clean record (no more than 6 points; any bans expired at least 5 years ago)
  • Ability to pass mandatory drug and alcohol screening
  • Positive attitude with a proactive and flexible mindset
  • Meticulous attention to detail and adaptability
  • Willingness to work varied shifts including weekends, nights, and travel to different work locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Holders of M1/M2 or higher Lantra qualifications (M3, M4, M5, M6 or SLG Unit 2 considered)
  • Commitment to sign a training agreement for traffic management qualifications
