Role Overview
The Registrar plays a crucial role in managing patient pre-admission and admission processes efficiently and accurately to ensure smooth hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Precisely enter patient financial and personal demographic information into the system in a timely manner.
- Secure necessary signatures, and scan or copy all presented identification and healthcare coverage documents; document reasons if this information cannot be obtained.
- Verify insurance benefits and coverage, and acquire required pre-certifications, referrals, or authorizations based on patient-specific benefits and contractual agreements; relay financial responsibilities clearly to patients or guarantors.
- Adhere strictly to Front End Collections Policies.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with patients, physicians, hospital staff, and other stakeholders.
Standards and Compliance
- Maintain performance expectations regarding patient and employee satisfaction, and financial metrics as specified in evaluations.
- Comply with all employee handbook guidelines and hospital policies.
- Uphold DCH Behavioral Standards by fostering positive relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and oneself.
- Utilize electronic communication tools, time and attendance systems, learning management platforms, and intranet resources proficiently.
- Perform any additional duties assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Basic clerical skills including typing proficiency of at least 20 words per minute; computer literacy is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to remain courteous and cooperative with others, especially under stressful conditions.
- Strong telephone etiquette and exceptional customer service capabilities are essential.
- Experience in healthcare settings and familiarity with basic medical terminology are advantageous.
- Proficient reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of English is mandatory.
