Railway Track Inspector

About the Position

We are recruiting a skilled Track Inspector for our railway operations, based in Prince George, British Columbia. This full-time role demands a thorough commitment to safety, regulatory adherence, and infrastructure integrity, involving extensive travel across the region. The candidate will ensure rail track conditions meet all safety and operational standards.

Primary Duties

• Carry out comprehensive inspections of railway tracks following Transport Canada Track Safety Rules, Track Inspector Guidelines, company policies, and Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).
• Detect, document, and report defects and hazardous track conditions.
• Provide recommendations for corrective actions and monitor their implementation.
• Conduct routine measurements and geometry assessments using specialized tools.
• Compile precise inspection documentation and maintain detailed records.
• Collaborate effectively with supervisors, maintenance crews, and operational staff regarding track status.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and organizational standards during inspections.
• Engage in safety meetings, continual training, and professional growth activities.
• Assist in emergency response related to track issues when necessary.

Travel Expectations

• Willingness and ability to travel up to three weeks monthly across British Columbia and Western Canada.
• Receipt of live-out accommodation allowance for overnight travel.
• Work environments may include remote locations, variable weather, and long shifts.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• At least three years of direct experience in railway track inspection.
• Strong familiarity with Track Inspector Guidelines and CROR.
• Comprehensive understanding of track structures, components, and common defects.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Residency preferably in or near Prince George, but candidates from across British Columbia are welcome.
• Capability for extensive travel and flexible working hours.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
• Physical fitness to work outdoors under varying conditions.
• Ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight.
• Competence in computer applications including Excel, Word, Adobe, and various online reporting tools.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range of $70,000 to $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
