Role Overview

The Sharia Control Officer is responsible for ensuring branch operations comply fully with Islamic Sharia laws and principles as defined by the Sharia Committee. This role involves delivering essential Sharia knowledge and training to staff and monitoring the application of relevant rules and principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in branch financial and investment activities to ensure Sharia compliance.
  • Conduct Sharia audits of branch procedures and technical systems within Payment and Trade Compliance (PTC).
  • Prepare detailed Sharia compliance reports outlining observations regarding branch activities.
  • Provide clarifications on contracts, products, financing, and investment opportunities to branches, coordinating with the Head of Sharia Monitoring for submissions to the Sharia Committee.
  • Analyze proposals for financing and investments prior to submission to the Sharia Committee.
  • Support the Sharia Committee by preparing research papers on fatwa topics as requested, in coordination with the Head of the Internal Sharia Committee.
  • Identify challenges hindering implementation of plans and proactively suggest solutions alongside the Sharia Committee.
  • Assist other branches with necessary knowledge to develop contracts and products under the guidance of the Sharia Committee.
  • Explain and justify decisions made by the Sharia Committee regarding contracts and product compliance with Sharia principles.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A university degree or postgraduate qualification in Banking, Financial Sharia Law, or Sharia.
  • Between 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in a Sharia banking environment at a similar capacity.

Additional Skills

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in both Arabic and English, including report writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with effective presentation abilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable Sharia laws, regulations, and practices.
  • Robust analytical capabilities and effective communication across all management levels.
