  • Analyze market fundamentals such as supply and demand, basis and freight trends, and macroeconomic factors to identify opportunities ahead of competitors.
  • Monitor and manage trading risk by keeping track of positions, exposure, counterparty and credit risks to safeguard margins and apply disciplined trading practices.
  • Collaborate closely with Logistics and Operations teams to ensure efficient movement of products via rail, truck, and shipping vessels for seamless trade execution.
  • Develop and strengthen critical relationships with producers, buyers, and freight partners; also represent the company at industry conferences and trade shows.
  • Mentor junior traders by sharing market insights and best practices to elevate overall team performance.
  • Contribute to trading desk strategy, improving workflows, and play a vital role in the desk's growth over time.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in grain or agricultural commodity trading, with proven success managing a profitable book; experience in both buying and selling preferred. Transition candidates from origination or merchandising backgrounds will also be considered.
  • Strong skills in origination and negotiation, comfortable with cold calling and relationship development.
  • Sound commercial judgment involving market data interpretation, basis and freight economics, and disciplined risk management.
  • Natural leadership qualities and passion for mentoring others.
  • Rigorous attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) essential; proficiency in French or other languages is an advantage.
  • Educational background or equivalent experience in agriculture, business, economics, logistics, or related fields is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and commodity trading systems.

Benefits and Perks

  • Unlimited commission opportunity complemented by a competitive base salary (to be confirmed) rewarding your book's performance.
  • Entrepreneurial freedom to operate your business with the support and reputation of an established platform.
  • Comprehensive group insurance coverage and access to a retirement savings (RRSP) plan.
  • Vacation entitlement starting immediately upon joining.
  • Incentives for public transit usage.
