About the Office
The New Jersey Senate Democratic Office provides comprehensive legal, policy, and communication assistance to Democratic members of the New Jersey State Senate.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Communications Specialist passionate about advocating for Democratic values and adept at navigating a fast-paced environment. This role involves crafting tailored messages for various audiences and requires minimum one year of communications experience, including internships.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor New Jersey news outlets and political coverage.
- Create press releases, social media posts, and other communication materials.
- Coordinate interviews, press events, and media engagement for senators.
- Support District Offices with press-related requests and maintain local media contact lists.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proficient writing skills capable of producing press releases, statements, op-eds, and social media content that simplify complex policy topics.
- Experienced in media relations, including reporter interaction, interview coordination, and pitching stories.
- In-depth knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and Substack with strategies to engage target audiences.
- Able to comprehend complex policies and effectively communicate these to reporters.
- Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with Canva; candidates with skills in video/photo shooting and editing using CapCut, Final Cut Pro, or Adobe Premiere are highly preferred.
- Bilingual applicants, especially those fluent in Spanish (oral and written), are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including occasional weekends and after-hours as required.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary within the range of $60,000 to $75,000 annually and includes health and dental insurance, retirement plans, and professional development opportunities in a dynamic setting.
Additional Information
Residency Requirement: Per the New Jersey First Act, new hires must establish and maintain principal residency in New Jersey within one year of employment.
