About the Role
Join Northern as a Night Train Cleaner based at Heaton Traincare Centre in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Working predominantly during night shifts on a rotating 4-week roster (20:15–06:15), you will ensure our train fleet is pristine, safe, and ready for daily passenger service. This role is crucial to maintaining a high standard of cleanliness across Newcastle’s trains while most of the region rests.
Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly clean train interiors including windows, tables, seats, floors, and high-contact areas to meet strict hygiene standards.
- Remove rubbish, empty bins, and replenish onboard supplies.
- Conduct intensive and specialist deep cleans, utilizing appropriate equipment and methods to eradicate stubborn dirt.
- Respond promptly and safely to challenging cleaning situations such as handling biohazard spills, adhering closely to safety protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with teammates to complete cleaning tasks efficiently ensuring train departures are timely and safe.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in commercial, industrial, or domestic cleaning, enabling quick adaptation to the role.
- Exceptional eye for detail with high cleaning standards.
- Strong work ethic paired with reliability and a team-focused attitude.
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors and on trains during nighttime in all weather conditions.
- Good physical fitness capable of climbing onboard trains and remaining active throughout shifts, often exceeding 10,000 steps per night.
- Availability to work night shifts including weekends and bank holidays as per the rollling schedule.
Mandatory Requirements
- Reside within a 45-minute car travel distance from the work station.
- At least 18 years old.
- Pass safety-critical medical examination including drugs and alcohol screening.
- Have normal color vision.
Training & Safety
Comprehensive depot safety training and equipment handling will be provided to ensure adherence to safety-critical standards.
