Job description

Role Overview

Join Alberta Health Services as a Health Care Aide (HCA), where you will be a vital part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting patients' everyday needs. This position involves assisting individuals requiring short-term or ongoing care by following patient care plans and facility protocols. Interaction with patients, their families, and caregivers is key, across various settings including home, community, and healthcare facilities.

Key Duties

  • Provide personal care assistance that includes support with hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety.
  • Help nurses with routine care tasks aligned with patient requirements.
  • Participate in organized activities and programs to enhance patient engagement.
  • Observe and report changes in patients' mood, health status, and general wellbeing.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors under the guidance of a regulated health professional.
  • Facilitate effective communication between patients and healthcare providers.

Compensation and Work Details

  • Full-time, regular position with 7.75-hour shifts.
  • Shift pattern includes days, evenings, weekends with days off per rotation.
  • Hourly wage ranges from $26.43 to $29.58, with uncertified hires starting at a certified pay grade upon proof of certification.
  • Driver's license and vehicle required for the role.

Required Qualifications

  • Current or eligible registration/practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta as a Health Care Aide.
  • Proof of Health Care Aide Certificate or completion thereof within 18 months of hire.

Additional Information

The position is part of the AUPE AUX Union under the Assisted Living Alberta classification. Employment is based in Athabasca, Alberta, with a posting end date for applications on August 20, 2026, and an anticipated start date of October 16, 2026.
