Opportunity Overview
This role involves providing essential support within the Operative Services ATC, specifically in operating theatres and recovery rooms. Key activities include cleaning, restocking operating rooms, and safely handling medical equipment and sterile products. Duties also involve assembling case carts and operating room tables for various surgeries under the guidance of surgeons and nursing personnel, managing hospital equipment and supplies, correctly disposing of biohazards, and disinfecting patient-related items and equipment to maintain a hygienic environment. The work environment is fast-paced, managing over 15,000 procedures annually with rotating day shifts.
Role Description
The Service Worker II readies supplies and ensures cleaning and disinfection of instruments and specialized equipment for immediate use by healthcare providers. Responsibilities include distributing and replenishing patient care supplies, conducting quality control on equipment, recording maintenance data, and potentially transporting patients, equipment, laboratory specimens, blood products, and patient records. Reporting supply or safety concerns to Unit Managers is an important aspect, alongside maintaining accurate stock of patient care and specialty equipment.

- Work schedule: Rotating day shifts (0645-1500, 0730-1545, 0830-1645, 0900-1715); approximately 20 shifts per 4-week cycle
- Employment status: Regular full-time, 1.00 FTE

Qualifications and Skills
Applicants must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent and be proficient in English communication. The job requires excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in a busy and variable environment, confidentiality, reliability, flexibility, and teamwork. Experience in operating rooms is desirable. Knowledge and adherence to workplace health and safety standards and infection prevention protocols are essential, especially when handling specialized surgical instruments. Experience with transporting patients and managing operating room restocking is preferred. Understanding of body mechanics and a genuine interest in healthcare are considered assets.
Compensation
Wage range: $23.30 to $25.40 per hour.
