Job description

Role Overview

Haileybury invites applications for a motivated and practical Groundsperson to join their Facilities team on a full-time, ongoing basis (1.0 FTE), starting promptly. This role involves a varied weekly roster—Tuesday to Saturday during school terms, transitioning to Monday to Friday during school holidays—at a dynamic school campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining high-quality turf, lawns, and sports facilities.
  • Prepare and upkeep sports fields and turf cricket wickets supporting Haileybury's sports programs.
  • Support the maintenance of plants, grounds equipment, and machinery essential for grounds upkeep.
  • Help with maintenance and operation of irrigation and reticulation infrastructure.
  • Provide logistical and portering assistance during events and functions as necessary.
  • Deliver work that meets Haileybury's high standards and timelines consistently.
  • Keep accurate records and complete assigned tasks within set deadlines.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols fostering a healthy, safe, and environmentally responsible workplace environment.
  • Ensure no deliberate or careless interference with environmental health and safety provisions or welfare equipment.

Candidate Profile

  • Familiarity with appropriate conduct when interacting with children.
  • Knowledge of cultivated plants and their care requirements.
  • Hands-on experience preparing sports fields and turf cricket pitches to a professional standard.
  • Proficiency in turf management, operating equipment and machinery, managing irrigation systems, and handling chemicals safely.
  • Experience in applying horticultural sprays and fertilizers.
  • Capability to perform manual handling, maintenance activities, and operate hand tools.
  • Good physical fitness to manage repetitive and physically demanding tasks.
  • Possession of a current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office suite, and workplace management software competency.
