Role summary

This position is for skilled, safety-focused drivers to support roll-on/roll-off vessel cargo activities. The job involves moving cargo vehicles onto and off ships, placing them as directed by the loading plan, and working in line with maritime safety requirements.

The role calls for close coordination with vessel officers, stevedores, and terminal staff to keep cargo handling smooth, efficient, and safe at every stage.

Qualifications

• A valid Ghanaian Class E or F driving licence with a clear driving history.
• Current STCW certification.
• Valid Discharge Book, Seafarer’s Identity Document (SID), and passport.
• Medical fitness certificate approved for seafarer duties.
• Hands-on experience driving heavy trucks, trailers, buses, or other commercial vehicles.
• Working knowledge of MLC 2006, the STCW Convention, and maritime safety practices.
• Ability to load, drive, position, and secure vehicles safely on RoRo vessels.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and in changing weather conditions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• A professional attitude, dependable work ethic, and strong safety awareness.

Preferred experience

• Experience working on RoRo vessels, in ports, terminals, or cargo operations.
• Background in vehicle lashing and cargo securing.
• Familiarity with port safety rules and procedures.
• Knowledge of defensive driving methods.
• Basic ability to communicate in English.

Key duties

• Drive vehicles safely on board and off RoRo vessels.
• Place vehicles in the correct positions based on the vessel loading plan.
• Carry out checks on vehicles before operations begin.
• Work according to instructions from the Chief Officer, Loading Master, or Cargo Supervisor.
• Make sure vehicles are properly secured before departure.
• Follow company rules, MLC 2006, STCW requirements, and all safety procedures.
• Immediately report accidents, mechanical issues, or unsafe situations.
• Maintain a professional image while representing the company.
