Position Overview
This term-limited, full-time role offers a unique chance to lead how the state government delivers digital services to its citizens. Reporting remotely from anywhere in Colorado, the Director of the Colorado Digital Service (CDS) will spearhead a technology consultancy and product delivery team focused on modernizing public services through digital transformation.
This leadership position is responsible for driving the Colorado Digital Government Strategic Plan, emphasizing the myColorado app and statewide digital identity initiatives. The role champions human-centered software development, influencing executive leadership to cultivate a culture of digital excellence and aligning technology projects with state business objectives by cutting through bureaucratic processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to align technology efforts with organizational goals, transforming IT into a core driver of public service innovation.
- Ensure resource allocation, projects, and policies support the agency's mission effectively.
- Collaborate with finance and budgeting teams to manage financial allocations and respond to budget requests.
- Invest effort in recruiting diverse team members representing various backgrounds and perspectives.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in digital product management, technology consulting, or public service delivery.
- Minimum of 5 years in progressive management roles demonstrating growth into senior leadership.
- Ability to identify digital opportunities that enhance public service outcomes.
- Strong advocacy for human-centered design and modern software development.
- Skilled at navigating organizational complexity and leveraging informal authority.
- Experience leading diverse multidisciplinary teams across organizational boundaries.
- Data-driven approach to strategy, prioritization, and measuring return on investment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years managing complex digital products from discovery through delivery.
- Expertise in identity management, authentication, or Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions highly valued.
- Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders and drive human-centered design in government environments.
Conditions and Additional Information
- This is a term-limited position expected to last approximately three years, subject to extension as needed.
- Remote work is permitted anywhere within Colorado, with occasional reporting to the primary work location required.
- The candidate must reside in Colorado by the first day of employment; relocation timeframes are negotiable.
