Airport Facilities Construction Worker

Position Overview

This role involves supervising, coordinating, and actively engaging in the challenging tasks associated with the construction, repair, maintenance, and remodeling of airport facilities. The candidate will manage personnel, materials, and equipment to ensure successful completion of assigned construction projects and execute a broad range of technical duties related to the facility's infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage staff in complex construction-related activities including fabrication, welding, carpentry, installation, repair, and remodeling within airport facilities.
• Organize and synchronize activities, personnel, materials, and equipment for project execution; liaise with airport occupants to align construction schedules; maintain clean and orderly work environments.
• Develop time and materials estimates to be submitted to management for approval.
• Perform lock system repairs, including re-keying, replacing locksets, and installing advanced lock cores such as Smart Cores.
• Inspect and ensure accuracy and adherence to standards in work performed by assigned employees.
• Carry out carpentry tasks from rough framing to finishing, including installation of door hardware and fabrication of cabinets, partitions, floors, furniture, and work tables.
• Build cement forms, pour and finish concrete elements like pads, footings, walkways, and planters.
• Oversee additional construction duties such as fence and gate installation, painting, plastering, welding, masonry, and basic plumbing and electrical work; repair and install ceilings, roofs, and flooring.
• Install and replace glass or plexiglass in various window types; construct and repair window frames and glazing.
• Transport materials and supplies to worksites or facility complexes as needed.
• Interpret and utilize detailed blueprints and shop drawings in project execution.
• Ensure proper use, maintenance, and operation of construction equipment and tools.
• Serve as a security escort for vendors within the airport environment.
• Respond courteously to public inquiries, provide relevant information, and resolve complaints efficiently.

Qualifications and Requirements

• High school diploma or GED plus thirty credit hours of vocational training in construction-related fields such as carpentry, plumbing, or welding.
• At least four years of experience in general building or facility construction.
• Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or ability to obtain by hire date.
• Obtain a City Operator's Permit within six months of employment.
• Ability to qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card following Aviation Department and TSA policies.
• Completion of a security background check by U.S. Customs & Border Protection if applicable.
• Capable of physical activities including prolonged standing, walking, bending, crouching, climbing, and handling moderate to heavy lifting; able to operate motor vehicles and equipment.

Working Conditions

Work will occur primarily in field and construction site environments, requiring travel between locations and exposure to traffic, construction machinery, dust, noise, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
