About the Role

Arup's Transport Planning team seeks a senior leader to advance and expand transport planning capabilities within our Cities, Planning and Design portfolio. This role is based in Cork, Ireland, and involves leading the planning of large-scale transport infrastructure projects, major developments, and contributing to transport-related policy and strategy formulation. Responsibilities include management, mentoring, client relationship building, business development, and leading bids across Ireland and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take charge of project delivery, coordinating multidisciplinary teams internally and strengthening client connections.
  • Provide strategic guidance on technically complex transport and infrastructure initiatives, ensuring alignment with technical, commercial, and client goals.
  • Identify market opportunities and lead successful proposals to foster business growth.
  • Establish and maintain enduring relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry collaborators to ensure ongoing project pipelines.
  • Inspire and lead diverse project teams, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Serve as a prominent market representative to enhance Arup's presence across Europe.
  • Promote the integration of Arup's Total Design approach, embedding holistic and sustainable solutions into projects.
  • Support talent development through mentoring, coaching, and guiding early-career professionals.
  • Contribute to strategic business planning aimed at strengthening transportation services.

Candidate Profile

  • Hold a degree in Transport Planning, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Possess over 15 years of experience in transport planning leadership, preferably within consultancies.
  • Proven track record in leading large-scale projects, securing new contracts, and managing multidisciplinary programs.
  • Strong commercial insight with skill in developing and sustaining client relationships.
  • Hold or be pursuing membership in a relevant professional chartered institute.
  • Adopt an integrated design approach, linking technical, commercial, and creative strategies to deliver innovative solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead and mentor high-performing teams effectively.
