About the Role
Our client, a licensed Non-Bank Financial Institution, is looking to hire a Risk Manager reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer. The successful applicant will independently oversee the institution's risk exposure by crafting and enforcing a strong Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. This role ensures all significant risks are identified, quantified, tracked, and controlled within set risk appetite limits to enable sustained growth, compliance with regulations, and long-term organisational stability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, execute, and continuously improve the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF), including Risk Appetite Statements, policies, procedures, standards, risk taxonomy, methodologies, and reporting formats.
- Provide independent monitoring and insight across key risk areas such as credit risk, liquidity risk, market risk, and operational risk, including assessing portfolio quality, cash flow structures, FX and interest rate exposures, process failures, fraud, and IT risks.
- Offer risk-focused challenge on business strategies, new initiatives, and growth plans.
- Lead development and supervision of integrated risk dashboards, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Early Warning Indicators (EWIs), and competitor/market analysis tools to deliver forward-looking insights, trend identification, and deterioration alerts.
- Continuously monitor credit portfolio performance metrics such as PAR, NPL ratios, deterioration rates, write-offs, recoveries, credit limits, and concentration risks.
- Ensure adequacy of credit controls and provisioning methods.
- Oversee liquidity risk management by monitoring funding gaps, deposit concentrations, cash positions, and ensuring regulatory and internal compliance.
- Lead liquidity stress tests and scenario analyses.
- Establish operational risk incident management frameworks, escalation protocols; ensure critical incident reporting to executive committee, root cause analyses, fraud risk controls, business impact assessments, and continuity planning/testing.
- Design and manage stress testing frameworks covering credit shocks, liquidity stress, macroeconomic scenarios, capital adequacy, and risk quantification.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive risk reports for the board, management, and executive committees with strategic insights and recommendations.
- Drive automation and digitisation efforts within risk reporting processes.
- Supervise and mentor Risk Officers while fostering a strong risk culture and accountability across the organisation.
- Ensure clear risk ownership within frontline functions and contribute to strategic business planning including new product approvals, partnerships, expansions, ESG considerations, and emerging risk frameworks.
- Promote ongoing enhancement of ERM frameworks and methodologies.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- A Master's degree or professional certifications in financial or risk domains is preferred.
- Have 3 to 5+ years of advancing experience in risk management, compliance, or internal audit within financial or regulated industries.
- Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory risk management frameworks relevant to banking, finance, and micro-finance sectors in Zambia.
- Experience designing risk assessments, frameworks, and internal control systems.
- Strong regulatory compliance, data analysis, and financial reporting expertise.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficient communication skills for effective reporting to senior leadership.
- Experience using productivity and analytical tools including advanced Excel and data extraction or risk management software.
- Ability to train staff and nurture a risk-aware culture throughout the organisation.
