Position Overview
The Human Resources Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the HR team with a variety of functions including recruitment, employee onboarding, managing employee relations, handling performance reviews, administering compensation and benefits, managing claims, facilitating training, and ensuring compliance with relevant employment laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide employee support regarding HR matters such as compensation, benefits programs, vacation, and leave requests.
- Assist in all stages of recruitment: creating job postings, screening candidates, conducting interviews, recommending hires, preparing job offers, and onboarding new employees.
- Support bi-weekly payroll processes by preparing necessary data inputs and documentation.
- Maintain accurate employee records using HR information systems like Oracle and Workforce.
- Manage scheduling and documentation for probationary and annual hourly performance evaluations.
- Organize activities to foster employee engagement and boost workplace morale.
- Assist with claims administration including short-term and long-term disability, workplace safety insurance claims, and return-to-work programs.
- Coordinate employee participation in training and professional development events.
- Handle benefit program administration, such as enrollments and terminations.
- Process data related to attendance, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
Educational and Professional Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Pursuing a CHRP designation is considered advantageous.
Skills and Experience Required
- One to three years of administrative experience, ideally within Human Resources.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to interact effectively across organizational levels.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to organizational changes.
- Capability to interpret employment and human rights legislation to ensure compliance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience using HR information systems such as Oracle.
- Commitment to continuous learning to stay updated on legislation and best HR practices.
